Rob Posted by Rob | 09:59 a.m. GMT | 24 July 2006 Star Collections Update (American) 1950s and early Silver Age DCs plus 1950s sci-fi greats and more!Another foray into our Star Collections this week in the following categories: *DC: A medley of Silver Age and 1950s classics from DC's key titles, mostly pre-distribution inc. Action, Adventure, Batman, Detective, Brave & Bold (inc. a very nice VG/FN copy of #34, debut of Silver Age Hawkman by Kubert), Superboy, Superman, World's Finest and sought-after suspense series House Of Mystery, My Greatest Adventure and the extremely scarce Sensation Mystery, catering for a wide range of tastes. *Miscellaneous 1940-1959: A swathe of swashbuckling space opera, with the Wood/Harrison/Orlando Captain Science from Youthful Publications, Fiction House's classically pulpy Planet Comics (Matt Baker issues), Ace's Space Action, and the glorious Strange Worlds from Avon, with lingerie/bondage/women in peril galore and a stellar art line-up (Wood, Williamson, Frazetta, Greene, Krenkel to name but a few!). Back on Terra Firma, we also have a the one-off Secret Missions cold war thriller, Captain Marvel Jr, All True Crime (Canadian Edition), and the lovely Vooda (a touched-up post-code South Seas Girl again by Baker) from Farrell. Posted by Rob | 09:55 a.m. GMT | 24 July 2006 Star Collections Update (British) - Eagles Volumes 5 & 6*Boys Adventure & War Comics: One of our latest acquistions at 30th Century is a run of most of the first 12 volumes of Eagle, averaging VG/FN condition. We kick off the release of this collection with Volumes 5 & 6 virtually complete (1954/1955) since they seem unaccountably scarcer than other years. Move quickly -- they won't be with us for long! Posted by Rob | 09:43 a.m. GMT | 24 July 2006 Car Booty Collection Update - Defenders, Daredevil & Dames, Dames, Dames!*More Marvel-ous stuff from our prestigious Car Booty collection (as seen on TV): Posted by Rob | 09:37 a.m. GMT | 24 July 2006 British Update - Jackpot & tons more funnies inc Knockout 1946!*In our regular British update this week, lots of new stock in our Humour Comics & Picture Libraries section. Brace yourselves for an avalanche of guffaws from the UK's foremost tittermesiters, with updates to our stock of Beezer, Buster (inc. scarce 1972 Holiday Special), Cheeky, Cor, Knockout (1946 & 1972), TV Comic (with Dr. Who and TV's Avengers), Whizzer and Chipe & Whoopee! Highnote of the mirth-fest this time is a substantial range of 1979's Jackpot, more than half the run between issues 1-80. Though a late entry in the humour stakes, Jackpot had a number of both innovative and shamefully derivative strips ('Jake's Seven', anyone?) which, with its constant emphasis on prize-winning competitions, made it stand out from the herd. Posted by Rob | 09:25 a.m. GMT | 24 July 2006 16 July 2006British Update - Conan, lots of Annuals inc. Eagle, Sci-Fi Picture Library bonanza, School Friend & TammyAn extensive update to our British stocks this week in the following categories: *Marvel UK: New stocks of one of Marvel UK's more popular series, Savage Sword Of Conan. Beginning as a weekly reprinting the Thomas/Smith comics, it enjoyed a long run and eventually metamorphosised into an edgier monthly with its second incarnation, to which we've added dozens of issues, averaging FN. Happy pillaging! *Annuals: A multitude of favourite titles added to our Annual section, with new entries for Beano, Beezer, Black Bob (1957), Dandy, Dr. Who (inc the scarce 1975), Battle, Bunty, Jackie, Princess, Beryl the Peril, Monster Fun, Krazy, Valiant, Victor, Pink, Space 1999, Tammy, the Six Million Dollar Man, Kojak and many more. Star of this selection though is a top drawer range of vintage 1950's Eagle Annuals from #2 in an attractive VG/FN through to #9, with Dan Dare, PC 49, Jeff Arnold, Harris Tweed and all the classic characters in handsome hardcover format. *Boys' Adventure & War Picture Libraries: A galaxy of scintillating sci-fi this update, with Buster Adventure Library (starring Rick Random), a lovely run of mid-grade late Thrillers with Jet-Ace Logan, a selection of scarce Space Holiday Specials, Super Detective (with that Rick Random man again!), and Valiant Picture Libraries with Space Detective, as well as the oddball part-reprint Space Adventures from Miller. Keynote is a lengthy run of Starblazer, the sci-fi digest from DC Thomson which ran for 281 issues from 1979 to 1991. This run commences with the first issue and includes several of the Grant Morrison scripted numbers which have become sought-after collectibles! *Girls' Comics & Picture Libraries: Two significant titles, one relatively new to our lists and one old favourite. Firstly School Friend, home of the Silent Three, Bessie Bunter, Cherry & the Children and others, is a former 'story paper' that we've had the issue of, but this sequence from 1962-1965 is the longest run through our hands yet! And secondly, Tammy is back for more, with a run from 1971 (when it had just absorbed Sally) to 1981 (including almost 10 months' worth of the much-pursued combo issues with Misty); this hardy perennial has scores more issues for you to choose from! As always, full details of all this new stock in the appropriate sections of our online catalogue. Posted by Rob | 09:08 p.m. GMT | 16 July 2006 Star Collections Update (American) - Voodoo!*In Horror 1940-1959, we take a break from our extensive Atlas updates (though don't despair, Atlas fans -- there's many more to come in future weeks!), and turn our attention to Farrell's notoroius Voodoo title, of which we have a complete run from #1 to the transitional last issue #19 (from #20, it continued briefly as Vooda, post code, but that's another section and another update...) Posted by Rob | 08:43 p.m. GMT | 16 July 2006 10 July 2006British Update - Debbie, Judy, June, Mandy, Jackie & Girl (2nd series) and loads more girls!*Girls' Comics & Picture Libraries: Revisting several popular titles this update, with new stock for Bunty (late 80's), Debbie (1975-1982, inc. several '& Spellbound' issues,) Spellbound itself (1977), Judy (1964-1986), June (1963-1970), Mandy (late 80's), Misty (1979), Princess (1962), Princess Tina (1968), Mandy & Judy (inc 1st issue), and Jackie from 1976-1977, inc the first 'combo' issue when it acquired Diana! Posted by Rob | 12:22 p.m. GMT | 10 July 2006 Car Booty Collection update - Captains America & Marvel, 1970's Kirby and a Marvel reprint cornucopia!*Marvel Comics: It's 'Captains Courageous' week at 30th Century from our prestigious Car Booty collection. Posted by Rob | 12:10 p.m. GMT | 10 July 2006 3 July 2006Star Collections Update (British) - Pre-decimal Picture Libraries*Boys' Adventure & War Picture Libraries: A splendid selection of pre-decimal picture libraries, including the ever-popular Air Ace (from #73), Battle (from #9), and War (from #17), with pluckly guardians of the Empire thwarting fiendish interlopers at every turn. Chocs away! (Mmm...chocs...) Posted by Rob | 12:58 p.m. GMT | 3 July 2006 Star Collections Update (American) - Atlas Journey Into Unknown WorldsThis week, another dip into terror: *Horror 1940-1959: From Atlas, a startling selection of Journey Into Unknown Worlds, beginning with #5. Initially having a sci-fi bent, JIUW rapidly realised the commercial trend and slid over into a celebration of all things ghoulish and nasty. Included here are three of the notorious Basil Wolverton stories, ably backed up by Everett, Post, Maneely, Heath and other Atlas stalwarts. Many pre-code issues, with a couple of late post code issues as a bonus, many in extremely affordable grades. Yet tons more horror from Atlas and other publishers to come in the months ahead!
